HIV-AIDS Working Group

HIV is one of the leading health problems facing the world today, and Ukraine is no exception. More than 360,000 people in Ukraine are living with HIV. With cases of HIV infection in Ukraine doubling every year for the past 3 years and infection rates already topping 1.4% among the adult population, the infection rate in Ukraine is the highest in the European region.


Mission

The main goal of the HIV/AIDS Working Group is to assist Peace Corps volunteers in their efforts to educate their communities about HIV and AIDS. The working group will assist by collecting, creating, and disbursing resources as well as ideas, event information and contacts.


Activities

- 'Run Across Ukraine' project

- Conduct the HIV-AIDS poster submission contest

- Write issue-related articles for the NuShcho!? newsletter

- Lesson Plan and ribbons for World AIDS Day and International AIDS Day

- Joint project with the Healthy Lifestyles Working Group

- Swaziland Pen Pal Program

- Create a supplement for the 'Sound Mind, Sound Body' Manual

- Coordinate help for any summer camp that requests help.

- Conduct sensitivity trainings about people living with HIV

- Hold trainings for Volunteers at Pre-Service and In-Service Trainings

- Train Peace Corps staff (LCFs and TCFs) in HIV/AIDS education
